Russia–Korea Economic Forum: Welcome to the Far East

On 9 December the Russian-Korean “Welcome to the Far East” Economic Forum was held in Seoul. The Forum was organized by the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Korea, the Korea International Trade Association and the Korean-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Forum, supported by the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District and Co-Chairman of the Russian-Korean Intergovernmental Commission Yury Trutnev, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Stanislav Voskresensky, Deputy Minister for Development of the Russian Far East Mikhail Shereikin, as well as over 400 Russian and South Korean business representatives and governor-led delegations from nine Russian regions.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister talked about the measures being taken by the Government of the Russian Federation to improve the investment climate and simplify the conditions for doing business between the two countries. He also mentioned the results that had already been achieved.

Stanislav Voskresensky noted that the Russian side was interested in attracting South Korean investments into modernizing the manufacturing, services and agriculture industries and creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing base. He also stressed that a priority of state policy is to support investments in infrastructure, particularly to increase the flow of direct foreign investments in Russia through public-private partnerships.
