Roscongress Foundation to organize World Energy Congress

An Agreement on the organization of the 25th World Energy Congress in Russia has been signed and an Executive Assembly meeting between the World Energy Council, the Russian member committee of the World Energy Council, and the Roscongress Foundation has taken place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, at a meeting attended by Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation. The Congress will be held in St. Petersburg in 2022.

“The World Energy Congress is one of the key World Energy Council events, it is a premier business event which takes place every three years. Russia, Portugal, and the United States battled for the right to host the 2022 event. Russia is the global leader of the international energy agenda, and holding the Congress in our country will help to address the most pressing industry issues. Roscongress will be fully responsible for organizing both the event and social programmes within the Congress, and for organizing the Future Energy Leaders’ Programme and the Executive Assembly meeting,” Alexander Stuglev, Chairman and CEO of the Roscongress Foundation, said.

The Future Energy Leaders’ Programme is the World Energy Council’s programme for its community of outstanding young professionals, which serves as the basis for attracting a limited number of committed young specialists to national, regional, and international activities and related events. It is convened every three years. The Future Energy Leaders’ Programme is held in parallel with the main Congress.

“Russia has been a co-founder and a leading participant in the work of the World Energy Council for over 90 years. The country is actively developing new technologies in the field of energy, and places particular emphasis on safety and the environment. Russia last hosted the Congress in 1968 in Moscow. I am certain that the event in St. Petersburg will be a significant feature of the 2022 international business agenda,” Christoph Frei, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council, commented.

The World Energy Council Congress is the leading international meeting of global energy leaders, which discusses the problems of maintaining energy resources and studies the most significant industry trends. The Congress has been held since 1924, and brings together leading experts and professionals, academics, government officials, and important media to discuss the most significant issues in the development of the energy sector. The event unites more than 4,000 delegates representing all sectors of the energy sector, and provides a unique opportunity to exchange views and experiences and better understand the latest trends in relation to the global perspective. The next World Energy Congress, the 24th, will be held in 2019 in Abu Dhabi (the United Arab Emirates). This will be the first Congress to be held in the Gulf countries.
