Rogozin calls on business leaders from Belgium and Luxembourg to invest in Far Eastern Federal District

At a session of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Belgium–Luxembourg Economic Union (BLEU) and the Russian Federation (MCEC Russia–BLEU), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin proposed that business leaders from Belgium and Luxembourg pay a visit to the Russian Far East and Siberia, where areas of forward-looking development are currently being established.

“We will provide businesses with guarantees of administrative support during the early stages. The Far East and Siberia are the face of twenty-first-century Russia”, Rogozin said in his address to the MCEC Russia–BLEU.

He also invited BLEU business leaders to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held on June 16–18.

According to Rogozin, trade between Russia and the BLEU has fallen by a third. “It is clear that the current economic situation and worsening geopolitical climate cannot but affect Russia’s relationships with both Belgium and Luxembourg. Looking at the economic data, we can see that volumes have fallen significantly, by around a third. This is a cause for regret, as restoring relationships is harder than creating them”, Rogozin told the commission.

He added that defence industry ties between the countries had experienced an even greater level of deterioration.

“Nevertheless, we remain optimistic and, at its heart, today’s session is the beginning of the very painstaking and complex task of restoring these relationships”, Rogozin said.
