Launch of Euro 2020 Volunteer Programme in St. Petersburg Set for SPIEF

The Euro 2020 football Volunteer Programme will kick off on 6 June at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The special event, to be held at the Euro 2020 stand, will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Euro 2020 Organizing Committee in St. Petersburg Olga Golodets, CEO of the Organizing Committee Alexey Sorokin, and Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics Igor Maksimtsev. St. Petersburg State University of Economics was chosen as partner university for programme implementation, and a tournament volunteer centre responsible for selecting and training candidates will be based there. The relevant agreement is to be signed as part of the special event at the Euro 2020 stand. The event will also welcome the ambassador of the Euro 2020 volunteer programme in St. Petersburg.

“In recent years, the volunteer movement in Russia has become one of society’s most important and most rapidly developing institutions,” Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said. “Nowadays, not a single important event in the country can do without the help of volunteers – whether it be a major international sports tournament or the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. And I am glad that Euro 2020 in St. Petersburg will provide a new opportunity for all passionate citizens to worthily represent their city and their country in the international arena, to express themselves, and to make this wonderful football holiday really bright and special”.

The Euro 2020 volunteer centre will open on Bolshaya Morskaya Ulitsa in the center of St. Petersburg on 6 June. In the evening, a friendly match will be held in the Football Park on Zayachy Island next to the Peter and Paul Fortress with the participation of St. Petersburg volunteers to include SPIEF 2019 volunteers as well.

The Euro 2020 volunteer programme is one of the most important components of the preparation of St. Petersburg for the grandiose football festival set to be held in the city on the Neva River next summer. After all, it is the volunteers who create the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at any major international event. Euro 2020 will be held in 12 European cities, and the volunteer programme promises to be the most diverse in the history of the tournament. Three group stage and quarterfinal matches are to be held in St. Petersburg.
