Integration Dialogue: Partnership Instead of Competition

15 Jun , 11:00–12:15
The World Economy at a Global Turning Point
Congress Centre, zone A, 3rd floor, conference hall A

Myriad major associations are operating in the Greater Eurasian region: the CIS, the EAEU, the Union State, the SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and others. The expansion of regional organizations in the Eurasian space and their growing number shows how important they are, but the interests of new members and overlap in work with other associations needs to be taken into consideration. For example, four of the eight member states of the SCO are members of the CIS. With the expected (in the near future) accession of the Republic of Belarus to the SCO, this will bring it to five of eight. The situation with the EAEU is very similar, with all member states also being part of the CIS, and having overlapping functions and regulations. How can we coordinate the ongoing development of regional organizations, harnessing the strengths and expertise of each of them, whilst focusing on collaboration rather than competition? What are the prospects for the further expansion of economic relations between Eurasian organizations, including the replacement of global trade rules with regional ones? What approaches should we take to collaborative work to ensure that integration projects are aligned? Where should the joint efforts of regional organizations be directed? What is the role of regional economic organizations and their development institutions in balancing the interests of the state, business and society? What are the opportunities for industrial cooperation in Eurasian free trade zones? A common agricultural market: a dream or reality?
