BRICS Business Partnerships in the New Economic Reality

15 Jun , 11:00–12:15
The World Economy at a Global Turning Point
Congress Centre, zone B, 2nd floor, conference hall B3

Today, rather than making concerted efforts to normalize international trade, several Western countries have chosen to implement politically motivated unilateral and unjustified trade measures that have only worsened the impact of the pandemic. These economies' direct violations of WTO rules have placed significant pressure on global supply chains, which remain fragile in the aftermath of the pandemic. Fragmentation trends within the once-unified globalization process have recently intensified. Dividing lines have emerged in the world economy, politics and society, and the role of uncertainty in global development has increased dramatically. BRICS holds immense potential for fostering trade and economic cooperation. In 2023, South Africa will hold the presidency of BRICS. In order to address the new challenges and risks, how can we, as BRICS and the developing world, work together to promote open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation? What fresh ideas will Pretoria propose to enhance cooperation across the five member countries? How can we effectively leverage BRICS mechanisms to ensure the socio-economic sustainability of our countries and partners amid the ongoing transformation of the traditional world economic order?
