SPIEF 2019 to Host Over 120 Business Events

The business programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with speakers and discussion moderators, has been posted on the Forum’s official website. The Forum is scheduled for 6–8 June 2019 and its key topic is ‘Creating a Sustainable Development Agenda’.

The programme of the Forum consists of four thematic blocks: ‘The Global Economy in Search of a Balance’, ‘The Russian Economy: Achieving National Development Goals’, ‘Technologies Shaping the Future’, and ‘People First’. To date, the Forum programme holds 120 events in various formats, including two plenary sessions, panel sessions, roundtables, business breakfasts and televised debates.

“In the context of globalization, the only way to shape out sustainable development agenda is doing it together with the global community. St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a leading global platform for building an international dialogue on the most pressing and topical issues and challenges of our time. Representatives of the government, public organizations, and business community leaders will take part in the SPIEF 2019 business programme. This year we will mostly talk about economic development and the strengthening of multilateral cooperation between countries, as well as the role of Russia in the global processes,” says Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

The ‘The Global Economy in Search of a Balance’ track features sessions on expanding and deepening transport partnership within the SCO, new approaches to managing, studying and preserving the World Ocean, changing the paradigm of the global economic order, international practices of legislative Internet regulation, development strategies of the Eurasian Economic Union, strengthening the transit attractiveness of the country, Russia’s reputation in the global food market and other relevant economic topics. The Energy Panel session will provide a comprehensive analysis of the oil and gas industry sustainable development, highlighting the multinational, as well as multicultural nature of the industry, its geographical diversity. During the discussion, participants will exchange views on energy markets trends and global oil and gas industry transformation, the dynamics of geopolitics influencing markets, and discuss the potential for cooperation and innovation for an effective transition to a low-carbon economy.

‘The Russian Economy: Achieving National Development Goals’ track will focus on ways to stimulate economic growth as a basis for achieving national development goals, small business development, the results and prospects for reforming the waste management market, global competitiveness and the export potential of Russian education, the transformation of construction industry, as well as housing and utility infrastructure in Russia. Also, the results of the national rating of the investment climate in the regions of the Russian Federation will be announced here. The sessions will be attended by Stephanie Flanders, Senior Executive Editor for Economics at Bloomberg and head of Bloomberg Economics, Elvira Nabiullina, Governor of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia), Frédéric Oudéa, President of the European Banking Federation, CEO of Société Générale, Maxim Oreshkin, Minister of Economic Development, Meir Brand, Vice-President of Google Inc., Svetlana Chupsheva, General Director of Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), Dirk Ahlborn, CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo, Co-Chairman of the Russian-Swedish Business Council (RSBC) and others.

Sessions within the ‘Technologies Shaping the Future’ track will concentrate on the development of artificial intelligence and cyber threats, digitalization of specific sectors of the economy, as well as international cooperation in science. Discussion topics include manufacturing digitalization, digital management of mineral resources, digital and technological transformation of oil and gas companies and health care. Speakers include Alexander Sergeev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Gorkov, General Director and Chairman of the Management Board of Rosgeologia, Anatoly Karachinsky, President of the IBS Group, Bob Moritz, PwC Global Chairman, Andrei Fursenko, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Guo Ping, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Rotating Chairman of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

The ‘People First’ track will focus on corporate health programs, equal opportunities in the digital economy, the strategy for integrative cooperation in science, education and business, a public-private partnership in philanthropy. Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Natalya Kaspersky, President at InfoWatch Group, Mikhail Oseevskiy, President of Rostelecom, Igor Shekhterman, CEO of X5 Retail Group N.V., Riccardo Valentini, Nobel Peace Laureate and a professor of the University of Tuscia (Italy), Nobel Prize Laureate in physiology or medicine, Martin Zinkernagel, honorary professor at the University of Zurich Rolf and others will attend the sessions.
