Russia and Spain plan to expand international cooperation

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov held a meeting with Spanish Ambassador to Russia Ignacio Ibáñez.

The officials discussed the development of Russian-Spanish trade and economic exchanges starting from 2011, when Spain participated at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum as a guest country. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in this regard, Kobyakov noted that active participation of Spain in major international multilateral economic forums in Russia will be of key importance in the context of expanding bilateral business ties.

The Spanish Ambassador Ibáñez said that Russia and Spain are linked together by long and warm relations and expressed hope that multifaceted cooperation between the two countries will further deepen.

They held a substantive exchange of views on practical aspects of cooperation in the framework of international forums in the year 2018–2019. In particular, they discussed possible formats of participation of Spain at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Eastern Economic Forum, the Russian Investment Forum, the International Arctic Forum, and Russian Energy Week, which are operated by the Roscongress Foundation.

The Ambassador of Spain also supported the idea of organizing a separate meeting of Russian and Spanish business circles during SPIEF-2018 and spoke about plans to expand ties between the Spainish and Russian regions, in particular at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi on 15–16 February 2018.

In addition, they touched upon the celebration of Russia-Spain Year of Education, Science and Youth in 2019.

Summarizing the results of the meeting, the parties spoke about the need to engage in closer work and formalize the contacts between the Roscongress Foundation and its Spanish counterparts on the forum track and cooperation in other formats.
