The President of the Russian Federation invites representatives of the UK business community to participate in SPIEF 2019

On 20 March, Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, held a meeting at the Kremlin with representatives of the UK business community and invited British entrepreneurs to play an active role in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on 6–8 June.

Ivan Glasenberg, the CEO of Glencore, Bob Dudley, group chief executive of BP, Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, Ian Taylor, Chairman of Vitol, Roger Munnings, Chairman of the Board of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce, Charles Hendry, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce, other representatives of major British companies, and Russian economic ministers attended the meeting.

Cooperation in energy, finance, production, engineering, pharmaceuticals, and other industries was discussed at the meeting. 

Vladimir Putin emphasized that more than 600 companies partly owned by British businesses operate in Russia. “I would like to emphasize that we in Russia are doing all that is necessary to make sure foreign investors, our partners and friends feel as comfortable as possible working on the Russian market and do not experience an excessive administrative workload. For reference, Russia is now 31st in the World Bank’s Business Freedom Index, having risen by dozens of places over the past five years,” said the President.
