Hungarian government and business officials invited to attend SPIEF 2018

The tenth meeting of the Russian–Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation chaired by Russian Minister of Healthcare Veronika Skvortsova and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto took place in Moscow on July 4.

Also taking part in the discussion of various aspects of Russian–Hungarian relations were Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yelena Astrakhantseva, Hungarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy as well as representatives of the two countries’ ministries, departments, unions, and business companies.

The participants noted the results of and outlined the prospects for trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Russia and Hungary as well as cooperation in the construction industry, medicine production, nuclear energy, the food industry, information and communication technologies and innovations.

Opening the commission meeting, Skvortsova noted that “Hungary has been a priority trade and economic partner for Russia in Central Europe for many decades and our relations are developing positively in almost all areas”.

In his speech, Szijjarto emphasized that “our countries are actively developing interregional cooperation, which was facilitated by the start of work by the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission for Interregional Cooperation”.

A number of intergovernmental agreements were signed with regions of the Russian Federation, such as the Republics of Tatarstan and Mordovia, the Kursk Region, and St. Petersburg. Several investment projects involving representatives of Hungarian business have now achieved specific results: a factory for the production of premixes and fodder has opened in the Tula Region along with a meat processing plant in the Sverdlovsk region, a joint venture for the production of high-quality seed materials plans to open soon in the Republic of Tatarstan, a laboratory is being built in the Stavropol Territory for the quality control of maize seeds, the feasibility of building a duck farm in the Lipetsk Region is being studied, and a food additive and spice production enterprise has been set up in the Moscow Region’s Kolomensky District.

The meeting participants noted the need to enhance the effectiveness of Russian-Hungarian cooperation in agricultural, educational, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian, and other sectors.

Upon conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed the final protocol of the tenth meeting of the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and agreements concerning construction and metallurgy.

Russian Minister of Healthcare Veronika Skvortsova invited the Hungarian side to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to be held in St. Petersburg on May 24–26, 2018.
