The SPIEF 2019 Sporting Programme Published

The programme of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, taking place on 6–8 June, includes events in 12 different sports.

“This year’s rich sporting programme combines business proceedings at the Forum venue with exciting sporting events that the participants can enjoy together with the residents of St. Petersburg. The business programme includes the sessions ‘Sport for Everyone: Global Trends and a Business-Like Approach’ and ‘Football within a Big City’. This year sports federations, organizing committees of major tournaments and leading companies choose a binary participation model: a presentation or a representative booth at the SPIEF venue combined with sporting activities in the city’s arenas and parks. For instance, the UEFA EURO 2020 European Football Championship has prepared a large-scale presentation that will feature major football stars. Next year, the Northern Capital is to host a number of games in the championship," said Georgy Bryusov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation.

Under the motto ‘Europe Loves Russia. Eurasia is our shared home’ the international electric car Peace Rally is to open the sporting programme. The Peace Rally starts on 27 May in Monte Carlo, and on 6 June the autocade arrives at the SPIEF venue, the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre.

ROSCONGRESS SPIEF RACE through the historical centre of St. Petersburg is to open the first day of the Forum. At 7:00 on 6 June, Forum participants, accredited journalists and the World Class club members will toe the starting line of a 5K race.

All Forum participants can test their sharp shooting skills in the laser range at the Kalashnikov Group booth. This year marks the 100th anniversary of birth of Mikhail Kalashnikov, the legendary engineer and designer. Additionally, for professionals and connoisseurs of practice shooting and weapons, the Roscongress Foundation and the Kalashnikov Group will hold special events in the Nevsky shooting club.

On 6 June, the Chess Lounge will open at the Forum venue. A hockey gala match between the teams of SPIEF and the Government of St. Petersburg will close the first day of the Forum. On 7 June, the Roscongress Cup squash tournament for the SPIEF participants will take place at RC CLUB.

Residents and guests of St. Petersburg are welcome to visit the Euro 2020 Football Park, the 31st International Junior Football Tournament in memory of FIFA First Vice President Valentin Granatkin and the SPIEF Drive Speed Festival. The Football Park located on Zayachy Island next to the Peter and Paul Fortress and will be open 6–12 June. The programme includes meet and greet with football stars, challenging contests, football shows and multimedia quizzes with prizes. The national teams of 12 countries are to take part in the Granatkin tribute tournament. The focal match between the national teams of Russia and Bulgaria will take place on 6 June at the Petrovsky Stadium. On 8 June, the SPIEF Drive Speed Festival on St. Isaac’s Square will launch a Leningrad retro rally, a rally-raid Ladoga and the second stage of the Peace Rally from St. Petersburg to Monte Carlo.

On 8 June, the traditional Roscongress Cup tournaments in the Peterhof Golf club and the Razliv tennis club, as well as an event for horse riding enthusiasts in the Derby equestrian club will mark the end of the SPIEF sporting programme.

Traditional Roscongress Cup golf tournaments will take place 8 June in Peterhof golf club and Razliv sports centre. Forum Sporting Programme will conclude at Derby equestrian club where the host and J.U.M.P. equestrian team will hold a competition for the Roscongress Cup in the ever so gracious and elegant discipline of showjumping. Special prizes await the youngest participants of the tournament.
