Russia–Latin America Business and Media Forum to be held in Montevideo

The Russia—Latin America Business and Media Forum will take place in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, on March 28–29, 2016. The event is being jointly organized by the Roscongress Foundation and the Bering-Bellingshausen Institute for the Americas (IBBA). The Forum has been organized with support from the Government of Uruguay, Russia’s ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Development, Communications and Mass Media, and Energy, and the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

The Russia–Latin America Business and Media Forum is a unique platform that will facilitate partnership between representatives from Russian and Latin American political and business circles. It will promote the discussion of future trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Russia and the region and of support at an intergovernmental level for Russian and Latin American companies, and will encourage the development of ongoing integration processes in Eurasia and Latin America. It should be noted that Uruguay currently holds the presidency of Mercosur, the Common Market of the South, which unites Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Uruguay, with Bolivia and Chile as associate members.

According to Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committees for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) and the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), developing cooperation with Latin America remains an important aspect of Russian policy. He commented that the events which take place at SPIEF and EEF, both leading international economic forums, are among the most effective tools for expanding dialogue with business and political circles from other countries.

“There are many promising areas where mutually beneficial cooperation can be developed between the business communities of Russia and the countries of Latin America. These open up good opportunities for dialogue across a range of industries, including energy and agriculture. I am convinced that the initiatives announced during the Russia–Latin America Business Forum will result in joint projects and will be widely featured at the twentieth St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 16–18, 2016”, he stressed.

The business programme for the Russia–Latin America Forum will include a plenary session, various topical briefings, and a special media session.

Event participants will include representatives from Russian and Latin American ministries and government departments, and Russian and international companies, among which will be Power Machines, Zarubezhneft, SPBEC, VTB Bank, ESTURIONES DEL RIO NEGRO, Zonamerica, PANEDILE ARGENTINA SAICFeI, and Helport. Representatives from the business and media communities of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Peru have also confirmed their participation in the Forum.

Speakers at the event will include Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Sergey Dankvert, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Anton Inyutsyn, Vice-President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay Raúl Fernando Sendic Rodríguez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua and Co-President of the Russia–Nicaragua Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation Luis Alberto Molina Cuadra, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay Tabaré Aguerre, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Ruben Cyd Carbonel, General Director of INTER RAO – Export Maxim Sergeev, President of the Bering-Bellingshausen Institute for the Americas, SPIEF expert, and Deputy Director of Rossiya TV channel Sergey Brilev, General Director of Centero Genetico del Litoral Manuel García Solá, and President of Panedile Hugo Alberto Dragonetti.
