The Russian Ethnographic Museum is located in a building constructed in the style of Russian neoclassicism. The jewel of the building is the Marble Hall. It was conceived as a memorial hall in honour of Emperor Alexander III. The peculiarity of this monumental structure with an area of about 1000 square metres is the use of only domestic pink marble for decoration. On the perimeter of the Marble Hall there is a high relief frieze depicting representatives of various peoples of the Russian Empire. The sculptors placed on it many figures forming genre scenes from the life of numerous peoples of the Russian Empire, creating a collective image of Russia and emphasizing the idea of ethnic diversity, richness and variety of cultures of the peoples inhabiting it.

Kholopy, a play directed by Andrey Moguchy will be performed on 5 June, the first day of SPIEF. It will continue the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the St. Petersburg Mint and the grand opening of the Mint Museum and Production Complex.
The play combines a historical chronicle, a psychological melodrama and a tragic comedy. The action takes place in 1801 and covers a few days in the life of the noble Plavutin-Plavuntsov family living at the court of Emperor Paul I.
In the history of the theatre, Gnedich's play had a happy stage fate. The legendary actresses of the Russian stage such as Maria Savina (Alexandrinsky Theatre, 1907), Maria Ermolova (Maly Theatre, 1908), Elena Gogoleva (Maly Theatre, 1987) performed the role of Princess Catherine in different years.
