St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2010:

New Formats and Services Bolster Forum's Results

 

PARTICIPANTS

The official SPIEF programme saw participation by over 4,200 attendees from 87 countries, including:

• 3 international heads of state (the presidents of Armenia, Macedonia, and France, as well as the prime ministers of Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia;

• 35 foreign vice premiers and ministers;

• 58 ambassadors;

• 46 representatives of international organizations

• 759 international business representatives from 87 countries, including SPIEF partners and sponsors;

• 867 Russian business representatives, including SPIEF partners and sponsors.

In addition, participants included:

10,070 technical personnel and temporary staff were employed during the Forum.

1,134 media representatives from 24 countries participated in the Forum (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Nigeria, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and USA).

BUSINESS PROGRAMME

SPIEF hosted 42 business programme events, including

two keynotes and 26 plenary sessions, of which two were held via live videoconference and six were roundtables:

The following events took place in formats new to the Forum in 2010:

• CNBC televised debate;

• 2 industry breakfasts;

• 5 briefings;

• A hearing of the Russian Federation's Commission for Modernization and Technical Development;

• 346 moderators, speakers, and discussion participants took part in SPIEF events.

 

DEEP DIVE

This year forum participants had access to a new smart service, Deep Dive (deepdive.forumspb.com). The resource hosted information about SPIEF sessions as well as ‘Fast Facts’: trends and analysis in numbers and charts. Deep Dive was accessible from any computer with Internet access.

 

AGREEMENTS

47 investment agreements and framework memoranda of intent and cooperation were signed at the 2010 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, with a total value of approximately RUB 338 billion, including:  18 investment contracts (agreements) totalling RUB 275.6 billion.

RusHydro and the St. Petersburg City Government

The agreement was the largest investment project announced at the Forum. It provides for joint project work in the fields of energy conservation and energy efficiency, as well as the development of hydropower and renewable energy sources, by scientific research and design institutes in St. Petersburg.

Volume of investment: RUB 65 billion.

 

The St. Petersburg City Government and Sberbank of Russia

The Government  of St. Petersburg and Sberbank of Russia signed a number of major investment agreements: a cooperation agreement for financing construction, overhaul and maintenance of the city’s Western High-Speed Diameter.

Volume of investment: RUB 60 billion.

A cooperation agreement for financing construction, overhaul and maintenance of  the city’s Overland Expressway.

Volume of investment: RUB 11 billion

A cooperation agreement for financing construction, overhaul and maintenance of a waste processing plant outside the city in Yanino.

 Volume of investment: RUB 8 billion

 

Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs and LSR Group

A cooperation agreement for investment projects and programmes between the Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank) and LSR Group.

Volume of investment: RUB 28 billion

 

4 merger and alliance agreements totalling RUB 60 billion:

• A Corporate merger between Danone Russia/CIS and Unimilk Company;

• Gazprom and GDF Suez agreed to the inclusion of GDF Suez in Nord Stream;

• Gazprom, Eni (Italy) and EdF (France) signed a memorandum on the South Stream gas pipeline;

• TransContainer and AO GEFCO signed a memorandum to create a joint venture.

26 memoranda of intent, one of which alone promises to generate financial results totalling RUB 1.8 billion.
