Meeting Held of the SPIEF 2020 Organizing Committee

In Moscow, a meeting was held of the Organizing Committee responsible for preparing and holding the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2020. The meeting was chaired by Konstantin Chuychenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – Chief of the Government Staff.

It was emphasized that every year the Forum proves itself as a large-scale, reputable and highly popular platform where the authorities, business, scientific and expert communities from around the world freely discuss important issues affecting the global economy and finance.

The meeting participants discussed SPIEF 2019 and the main areas of cooperation in the preparation for the upcoming Forum.

At the meeting plans were made to draw up the business programme and organize events to promote the Forum, and prepare the hotel, transport and congress and exhibition infrastructure as well as the venues for the SPIEF sports events and the Festival of Culture.

“In 2019, more than 19,000 people from 145 countries took part in SPIEF. The growing number of Forum participants year after year suggests that Russia remains an important focal point for business and fintech communities around the world. We highly value the confidence invested in the Forum by its partners, guests and participants. Our objective for next year is to use our experience and the Forum venue to ensure that we offer an experience that is at least on par with that of previous years,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee responsible for preparing and conducting SPIEF.

As part of the SPIEF business programme, we plan to continue the tradition of holding multilateral business forums with the involvement of Russian and international participants. The Forum venue will play host to a meeting of the B20 Regional Advisory Council, the SCO, BRICS and ASEAN Business Forums, the Russian Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Forum, and Youth Day events. The BRICS and SCO forums will be held ahead of the summits of these organizations, which will also be held in St. Petersburg in July 2020.

During the year-round SPIEF 2020 promotional campaign, it is planned to hold industry round tables, the session ‘The Russian Region’s: New Growth Points’, SPIEF sessions in Russia and abroad, and events in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Australia.

At the meeting the main findings of the SPIEF 2019 public discussions were presented. 26 expert opinions were published in the Roscongress Foundation Information and Analytical System. The event’s official website contains the analytical report ‘Outcomes of SPIEF 2019’, which contains a description of the topics discussed, key challenges and innovative solutions.
