Russia and Luxembourg Discuss Intensifying Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Advisor to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with Ambassador of Luxembourg to Russia Jean-Claude Knebeler to discuss strengthening trade and economic ties as well as intensifying cooperation in the scientific, technical, and humanitarian spheres.

“RussiaLuxembourg relations are friendly and based on the mutual interests of both countries. Luxembourg is a major investor in the Russian economy. We have been successful in developing cooperation in the trade, economic, scientific, technical, and humanitarian spheres. In March of this year, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev paid an official visit to the Grand Duchy. During the course of talks, a number of agreements were reached on the development of cooperation in investment, high technology, startups, the peaceful exploration of space, metallurgy, engineering, and machine-building,” Kobyakov said.

The two countries regularly maintain a political dialogue and pay state visits to one another. Bilateral interregional relations continue to evolve, and a substantial number of regions directly interact with their partners from Luxembourg, particularly the Tambov Region. There is active cooperation in culture and education. The activities of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, which opened in Luxembourg on 10 November 2011, serve to strengthen RussiaLuxembourg cultural humanitarian ties.

Delegations from Luxembourg are actively involved at major business events organized by the Roscongress Foundation. “Our delegation will take part in the Eastern Economic Forum 2019. It will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg Etienne Schneider for the second time. Participation in the business events of Roscongress directly help to strengthen economic ties and develop a constructive business dialogue. In this regard, I would especially like to mention the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which I have been taking part in since 2005. I can confidently say that this is the best international event that I know,” Knebeler said.

A key mechanism that contributes to the development of bilateral economic relations is the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Belgian-Luxembourg Economic Union.
