Officials and Business Community from the Chinese Province of Guangdong Visit Russia

The roundtable on trade and economic cooperation between Russia and China (Guangdong Province) was held in Moscow as part of the Governor of Guangdong Ma Xingrui’s visit. The business event was timed to the years of interregional cross cooperation between Russia and China, and organized by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province and the Roscongress Foundation. The roundtable was held with the support of the Embassy of China in the Russian Federation.

The event was attended by heads of such large Chinese companies from Guangdong as ZTE Corporation, EHang, Shenzhen Baoing Construction Group Co. Ltd., Guangdong Jovo Energy Group Co. Ltd., Ninestar Corporation, Guangzhou Automobile Group, Hytera Communications Corp. Ltd., as well as other companies from the region and representatives of the Russian business community. 

“The volume of bilateral trade between China and Russia increased by 27% in 2018, and in terms of the growth rate of trade it ranked first among all China’s main trading partners. The volume of bilateral trade between China and Russia sets a new record. This opens up multilateral prospects for expanding the scope of cooperation. A promising area of ​​cooperation could be creating joint ventures to make innovative products,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.

Guangdong is China’s leading province in the production of electronic, textile, food, pharmaceutical products and household appliances. The province accounts for more than 10% of China’s total GDP. Today, Russia and China are actively promoting cooperation in new areas, such as the development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic. Regular meetings at the interregional level contribute to a systematic discussion of the two countries’ initiatives.

“We held this roundtable in order to implement a series of agreements between our countries’ leaders, and to mark the 70th anniversary of Russia–China relations. We are breaking records in trade and economy, transport links are improving. I personally took part in the Eastern Economic Forum; I saw Primorye Territory on my trip, and it made a great impression on me,” said Ma Xingrui, Governor of Guangdong.

The dialogue will continue at the forum events: the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Arctic Forum (9-10 April 2019), the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (6–8 June 2019) and the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok (4–6 September 2019).
