Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo to become annual event

Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries of the Russian Federation Ilya Shestakov have presented the outcomes of the first Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo, which took place in St. Petersburg on September 14–16, 2017. The Forum brought together representatives from business circles, fisheries management organizations, and relevant government bodies from 19 countries. It was organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the attention that the Global Fishery Forum attracted from the general public and from foreign guests. We hope to see the Forum become a regular platform for communication between industry professionals”, commented Ilya Shestakov.

The Forum attracted the attention not only of professionals from the Russian fishing industry, but also of visitors from abroad. More than 1,600 people participated in the Forum, of whom nearly half were foreign experts, directors, and representatives of fisheries agencies from all over the world. Foreign delegations from Australia, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Germany, Iran, Iceland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Canada, China, Morocco, Namibia, Norway, the USA, Sierra Leone, the Faroe Islands, Chile, and Japan all attended the event, which was covered by more than 100 Russian and foreign journalists.

According to Anton Kobyakov, the September Forum in St. Petersburg attracted significant interest from industry representatives and related agencies in various countries. Holding this type of event annually on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and every two years in Russia’s regions will help to strengthen international ties in the fishing industry and improve the business climate within the sector.
