The Republic of Moldova is one of Russia’s primary economic partners among the CIS countries. Last year, the total goods turnover between the countries exceeded USD 1.5 billion and shows no sign of slowing down: the first quarter of 2019 can boast the total of over USD 450 million. Still, given all the opportunities in the agricultural, construction, tourism, and industrial sectors these results do not match the commercial potential the two countries share. What are the real possibilities for the development of mutual economic relations? What is the role of Russian regions in this development? What are the hurdles Russian businessmen face entering Moldavian markets? What mechanisms are needed to strengthen business communication and further expand cooperation?

Dmitry Kozak, born November 7, 1958.
After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Saint Petersburg State University, he worked at the Leningrad Prosecutor’s Office as a senior prosecutor in 1985—1989.
1990—1994: head of the legal department, head of legal management at the St. Petersburg City Council.
1994—1998: chairman of the legal committee for the Mayor’s Office of St. Petersburg, Governor’s Office, St. Petersburg.
1998: Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, chairman of the legal committee for the Governor’s Office of St. Petersburg.
1999: elected chairman of the board of directors for the International Investment Fiscal Union.
1999—2000: head of the government office, Minister of the Russian Federation.
2000—2003: deputy leader of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
2003—2004: first deputy header of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
In 2004: chief of government staff of the Russian Federation.
