The history of extracting and enriching mineral deposits is as old as that of humanity itself. A growing population, urbanization, social and economic development, and even the demand for a green and low-carbon economy are contributing to the growing use of minerals and metals. Thus, at the beginning of the 20th century, global production of copper amounted to around 500,000 tonnes. Almost 100 years later, it had exceeded 11 million tonnes and in 2018, production almost reached 24 million tonnes. However, satisfying today’s growing demand for these essential materials comes with a range of challenges. Reserves at mines and mineral deposits are dwindling, there is a need to explore and develop new deposits in remote areas, and there are limited resources to extract and enrich commodities, leading to increased costs. All this means that innovations are essential to maintain profitability and ensure the continued production of these resources. What steps are being taken by industry players to effectively explore and develop current and new deposits? How are these solutions impacting companies’ finances, and to what extent are they helping to satisfy growing demand for raw materials and securing sustainable development? What factors will the industry depend on as it continues to evolve?

Marianna Maksimovskaya, a Russian journalist and TV host, graduated from the Moscow State University, specializing in journalism.
Marianna Maksimovskaya, a member of the Academy of Russian Television since 2007, was awarded Russia’s highest journalistic prize (the TEFI) multiple times.
Since 1993 Marianna worked as a correspondent and TV host of information programs for TV channels such as ORT, NTV, TVS, TV6.
From 2003 to 2014 Marianna was deputy chief editor for REN TV channel, and host her own news round-up “WEEK” (REN TV).
Since 2015 Marianna has been working for the communication and consulting group of companies “Mikhailov & Partners”, and in June 2018 she headed it.

Professional experience:
1998 – Elected deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg (second convocation) for the 33rd Electoral District (Moskovsky District) and was twice re-elected in 2002 and 2007.
2009 – Appointed member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation – Representative in the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the Government of St. Petersburg; representative of Saint Petersburg State University in the government and administrative bodies of the Russian Federation.
2011 – Appointed Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation.
2012 – Appointed Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
2014 – Appointed State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation under an order of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Dmitry Osipov

Chief Executive Officer, Uralkali

Dmitry Osipov has been the Chief Executive Officer of Uralkali since December 2013.
Dmitry Osipov was born in 1966. He graduated from Gorkiy State University, majoring in Radiophysics and Cybernetics. Since 2011, Dmitry Osipov has been the member of the Council and Financial Committee of International Fertilizer Association (IFA).
From the mid-1990s Mr. Osipov held senior management positions in a number of large chemical companies including Khimprom (Volgograd), Propan-Butanovaya Company, Sibur-Khimprom. Between 2005 and 2007, Mr. Osipov served as CEO of Kirovo-Chepetsk Chemical Plant OJSC. In 2007-2011 he served as Chief Executive Officer of URALCHEM Holding PLC, in 2011-2013 as the Deputy to the Head of the Board of Directors of URALCHEM Holding PLC. In December 2013 Mr. Osipov became Uralkali's CEO.

Oleg Sienko

First Vice President, Russian Copper Company

Born in 1966 in the town of Bataisk (the Rostov region). Graduated from Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas with a Degree in Economics and Management of oil and gas enterprises. Also, got a Degree in Economics at International Management Institute and a Post-graduate Degree at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
Oleg Sienko started his career in 1988 in Irkutsk as an instructor of the “Youth Initiative of Irkutsk” association, forming a part of the City Committee of Komsomol.
In 2002, he was appointed Director General at OOO Gazexport, a subsidiary of Gazprom that was responsible for gas supplies to Europe.
In 2003, Oleg Sienko was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board – Head of Strategic Development and Corporate Management Division at OAO NGK Intera.
From 2009 to 2017, he was Director General at OAO “Scientific Production Corporation «Uralvagonzavod» (Nizhniy Tagil).
Oleg Sienko joined Russian Copper Company in February 2018, in the position of First Vice President he is responsible for federal government relations.
Oleg Sienkohas been awarded the Order of Honour, IV Class Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, II class medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, medal for “Excellence in Service in Ground Forces”. He also got a Certificate of Gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation, Certificate of Honour from the President of the Russian Federation, Honorary Title "Honoured Industrial Engineer" and a number of ministerial awards.

Markku Terasvasara

President, Chief Executive Officer, Outotec

Teräsvasara, Markku, B.Sc. (Civil Engineering), is the president and CEO of Outotec Oyj since 2016. Before joining Outotec, Mr Teräsvasara was President of Atlas Copco Mining and Rock Excavation Service Division in Sweden. He has been leading Atlas Copco’s Surface Drilling Equipment Division in China and held several other management positions in Atlas Copco. He has also worked as Project Manager and Senior Designer in a Finnish engineering company Pitkälä Oy & Pitla Oy and was Partner and Member of the Board of the company.
